A brief conversation with Gabriel about Autonomic Compass
Why did you write this?
Autonomic Compass was our first handbook. I wrote it after The Neurobiology of Connection, for people who were interested in the core ideas of Autonomics, but not interested enough to read a five hundred page book. I want people to be able to apply this work to improving their lives.
The goal was to take the central concepts of the new foundation model: what is trauma, what are autonomic states, what is neuroception… these kinds of things, and to provide the simplest and most actionable answers we could.
How is this book different from your other books?
This is not a literary book. It is a handbook, almost a workbook. The goal here is to give you the simplest actionable understanding of autonomic physiology as possible. It is a book you can get through in a few hours. It has a bunch of exercises in it, you can take notes in the book itself. It is meant to be used.
Who is your ideal reader?
Anyone who wants a non-technical overview of Autonomics. We have also sold many copies of the handbook to wellness professionals who use it to introduce their patients and clients to the core concepts of our work. It can frame a conversation about the importance of autonomic physiology simply, elegantly, and accurately. If you are a wellness professional, you can order the book in bulk here.
